T-Bone wants a t-bone!
I’ve read that there are scientists that actually ARE working to “grow” meat, and that they’ve been successful. I can’t see McDonald’s picking it up anytime soon, though (which is a shame, I like cows). I myself do enjoy a good vegetarian burger!
People “grow” meat all the time on farms. Cows are just plants that have been processed and converted into hamburger after they are digested.
Yes, yes, if you put it in those terms. But I’m talking about meat that is “grown”, or replicated, using tissue samples (which has been done but is not mainstream yet). The middleman, or in this case the cow, is no longer needed. I think it’d be great if we had meat that didn’t involve ending an animal’s life. I’m not a vegetarian, but I try to only eat meat that has been raised humanely. But that’s just me, I don’t like to push my beliefs on people. 🙂
Can’t they get something that doesn’t eat much and reproduce like crazy, such as rabbits or tribbles?
A good question, Darkhog. I may not have explained the concept well enough in Aurora’s monologue. The problem is that on a long voyage there is limited energy and gas for the ship, and out in deep space there may be no way to refuel. Extra weight means burning more fuel, and animals weigh more than plants. Seeds weight very little, and they grew as the dragons’ food supply was eaten, meaning the weight balance stayed the same. I guess you did point out a flaw in my reasoning though, as if they used rabbits, rabbits would be eaten at the same rate they reproduced (shakes fist at you). Lol. ANYWAY, I still enjoy writing the vegetarian storyline. 🙂
This strip makes me hungry for a nice, juicy sirloin, medium rare!
You and T-Bone both!
